About me

"We do not need magic to change the world,
we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already:
we have the power to imagine better"
- J.K. Rowling

I started writing in 2005, when a friend asked me to put together an article for a magazine. Bitten by the writing bug, I just kept going, going and going. Since then, my work has appeared in various books, magazines, websites and professional blogs.

You might think that I'm a little artsy-fartsy, with a degree in Fine Arts and a full-time job in the arts industry, but I'm not, really. I'm quite creative, but I'm useless with a paintbrush or pencil. While my friends at art school were excelling in painting and drawing, I was typically saved by my penchant for art history and well-written reports.

These days, what I love doing most is spending time with my family, especially my precocious 5-year old son. I do all my writing in my free time, which is mostly at night, hence my online moniker "Moonlight" and the name of my blog - "Writing by Moonlight".

I'm currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Art and Design, and have a deep interest in research and culture. As such, I was honoured to have been given the opportunity to contribute an essay entitled "Textile Traditions of Malaysia and Its Impact on Dress" to the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion, which will be published in May 2010.

I have loved making up stories since I was little, and I dream of becoming a children's writer someday. At the moment, however, I revel in writing articles on art, culture, travel, lifestyles and motherhood, and I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting projects.

Believe it or not, I actually write under about a gazillion pseudonyms, because I've been told that readers usually find it hard to believe that one person can write about so many different things. Fortunately, it's something that I manage to do quite well, and I don't mind if people don't know it's me because w
riting incognito has its advantages.

Though I can develop "multiple personalities" in my writing, I lead a simple, unassuming way of life. My family and I live in a tiny apartment in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, and we don't own a car (yet) because we'd like to maintain the smallest carbon footprint that we can muster.

Yours truly,
PS: Someone once asked me, "You have a full time job, you're doing your Masters part time, you have to take care of your family and home, and you work at night on your writing... why do you do it?" The answer is quite simple... I LOVE IT!
