History in the making & Stripes of glory

Happy Merdeka everyone! In keeping with our nation's 51st celebration of independence, I've written two special articles for Venus. The first, entitled 'History in the making', talks about the importance of history, how to develop your child’s interest in it and provides hands-on tips on making history come to life:

The second, called 'Stripes of Glory', recalls historical facts on our beloved flag - the 'Jalur Gemilang':

Breast is Best and Lead Astray @ Mother & Baby magazine

I have two articles in this month's Mother and Baby magazine. My cover story is called 'Breast is Best', written in conjunction with breastfeeding month. My second article is featured in the 'Hot Topic' section, and it addresses the dangers of lead poisoning and how to assess if your family's at risk.

Clay expressions

Remember that climactic scene in the movie Ghost? No, not Demi Moore's cute haircut... the 'clay' scene with the potter's wheel. Did it make you wanna fire up your kiln? Well, in any case, now you can! This really does look like fun. Perhaps when Amir's old enough, we can both take some classes.

Clipmarks.com

I recently found a most useful tool on the Internet - Clipmarks.com. It allows me to clip and save articles from the web, much like you would newspaper articles. For me, this tool is heaven sent. As a writer, I'm always gathering new ideas, keeping up to date with current issues and observing what others have to say about life (and how they say it). As a mother, I enjoy collecting recipes, as well as tips on child care and health. Clipmarks lets me do this with the greatest of ease. Best of all, I can clip stuff from my home computer and access them from my office PC, and vice versa. Read more about it, just follow the link:

Imagine that!

It doesn't take or cost much to spend quality time with your toddler or pre-schooler. I've found that all you really need is some time, patience and lots of imagination. That surely is the recipe for success when dealing with little ones. I've compiled from the web, some winning and cost-effective tips on having good, clean fun with your kids. Our family favourite is the make believe petting zoo!

Budding Olympian & Hunger knows no...

With Olympic fever in the air, how could I not write something about 'raising a champion'? Indeed, as a person who has never been 'into' sports, I'm hoping that I can encourage my son to be a well-rounded and physically active kid. Is there a way? There certainly is:

Champions, glitz and glory aside, there are those out there who need our helping hand. Do your bit to help, do anything that you can.

Writing for the internet

Like many writers, I've diversified into writing web content. This is probably 'the next logical step' for most writers, as writing markets are clearly not limited to print. The net is an amazing tool for writers, we can promote ourselves (via personal websites), get in touch with other writers (via online newspapers, forums etc) and correspond with several editors at once (via e-mails and messenger services).

I never thought that I'd get into web content writing so 'suddenly', but it has happened, and I can't be happier. I wont be working on as much 'printed' material as I used to, so from now on, I'll be updating this blog with news on my latest internet articles. I'll provide you with links, so that you can find them in cyberspace. More power to the internet! The saving grace of many a struggling writer. I believe this cartoon says it ALL!
