Are You Ready to Work Remotely? Survey for Pin

Before the Hari Raya holidays I helped Pin, founder of 1.com.my to prepare this online survey. If you've ever been interested in working away from your office, you should take it!

Copy editing for Brag About Bags

If you love handbags and leather goods, then you've got to check out KL-based Brag About Bags, which is run by handbag connoisseur Nonie. Some time ago, I helped copyedit their 'home' and 'order and shipping' pages. Basically, all the information was already there, but I just added some spice! Check it out:

 The home page.

The order and shipping page.

Nonie was pleased with the results and wrote an email to me saying, “Thank you for your beautiful words for Brag About Bags. You certainly have made shopping online an enjoyable experience! Keep on writing, your words are an inspiration.” Thanks Nonie!

Receipt Stories by BookXcess

Do you like to write? If you do, be sure to check out what I think is one of the most innovative publishing ideas out there - receipt stories. Yup, the BookXcess team, the good people who are responsible for bringing us great books at low prices, have launched an initiative to encourage people to write!

All you need to do is pen something in about 100 words, log on to the Receipt Stories website, and submit your entry. Your story, poem or rant will be published there for all to see, and if they like it, they'll even publish it on their receipts for all their customers to read!

This is like one of the coolest darned things that I've come across in the longest time! So go ahead, read, write, share! I hope to submit a receipt story or two soon!

Update 16.10.10:
Here's an article I wrote on Receipt Stories for Venusbuzz.com:

Mummy's heartbreak @ Venusbuzz.com

A few days ago, I blogged about how my son was hospitalised for the first time, and what a unpleasant time that was for the family. So, of course, I had to turn the experience into an article for Venus on a mummy's heartbreak. Check it out:

Cash Clash @ Venusbuzz.com

What do couples normally fight over during Hari Raya? It's not just which kampung will be visited first this year, but also how much money is being spent on the festivities. Case in point, my article on the cash clash of the sexes for Venusbuzz.com:

Me @ Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion!

Patience is a very important virtue for a writer to have. Sometimes, you write something and pour your heart and soul into it, only to see it in print months or maybe even years later. I wrote my essay 'Textile Traditions of Malaysia and Its Impact on Dress' for the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion back in 2006. I've waited four years for this... and it's finally arrived at my doorstep! I can't believe it!

Here's the cover. I just love its simplicity.

My essay appears in Volume 4 of this 10-volume encyclopedia.

Look! It's me! Third name on the right page, right under a friend of mine.

Where my essay begins...

... and ends.

You can get the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion at Amazon.com.

Happy birthday to me :)

I'm 34 years and 18 minutes old right now :)

Bouncing back :)

Hi everyone! I've missed all of you! I'm happy to report that my son, Amir, is doing much, much better now. He seems to have beat that mystery viral infection and his fever's been gone for about 2 days now. His appetite is improving and he's more himself too.

I'd like to thank all my readers, editors and clients for your support and understanding throughout my ordeal with Amir being in the hospital. I am so glad it's over :)

These aren't easy for me to look at, but I wanted to share two pictures that I took of Amir in hospital. They remind me of how scary it was, and how important it is to appreciate every little thing in each moment, and not to take things for granted.

Trying to make Amir as comfortable as possible.

My baby was so brave, although he endured a lot of many painful needle pokes :(

Through it all, I've learned that it's vital to keep a close watch over your kids, like what they're eating and doing, so that they're not exposed to dangerous diseases. I've also discovered that it is crucial for parents, and especially mothers, to trust their instinct. Doctors and nurses are good people, and they can give you their advice, but a mother knows what her baby needs more than anyone.

I am happy to be home, and back to work on my writing :)

PS: Thank you GOD for answering my prayers!

My son's in hospital :(

Hey everyone, I won't be blogging or taking on any additional writing projects for a little while because my son was struck by a mysterious fever after we got back from Hari Raya break. He's been in hospital since Sunday night. Please help pray for his speedy recovery. He's being so brave right now, and mummy has to be brave too. I will keep you guys posted when he's discharged, and my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Trendy Confessions @ Venusbuzz.com

Goodness, I've been so busy with Hari Raya preparations, it's been crazy around here! This may well be my last post for a while, since things are expected to get crazier, so let me take some time to tell you about a fabulous online boutique for plus-sized Malaysian women that I came across recently.

Called Trendy Confessions, it's run by the Jiar sisters. I found them so fascinating that first I wrote a brief piece about the store, and then I interviewed the dynamic duo for Venusbuzz.com!

Check out the article:

And the interview:

When I told them that the interview had been published online, the ladies kindly dropped me an email saying, "Thanks so much for the interview, we really appreciate it. Do let us know if there's anything else we can help you out with anytime. Have a great day!"

You're welcome ladies, and keep rocking those cool looks!

Welcome 2019: Time to Grow

Happy New Year everyone! I'm so so excited for 2019 and everything that it'll bring. I'm starting the year with gratefulness for...
