February 2011 Best Buds

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I've been feeling kind of weird and incredibly tired at times, does jet lag usually last this long? Anyway, despite not being as productive as I'd like to be, I've managed to complete a few writing assignments and there's a few more in the wings to look forward to. In the meantime, let me share with you my articles from the February 2011 issue of Best Buds :)

January 2011 Best Buds

I was working on my latest submissions for Best Buds magazine when I realised that I don't have any of their issues since January 2011! I wrote in and requested for keepsake copies and they very kindly delivered the issues to me today. So quick! I'll be slowly having them scanned, uploaded to Scribd and shared here, so do look out for them in the next few days! In the meanwhile, here are my articles in the January issue :)

Tune in my head - Big mystery of my life Solved!

You know how irritating it gets when a song gets stuck in your head? Well, I've had an instrumental tune stuck in my head for as long as I could remember and I've always wanted to know what it's called. Only thing is, where does one even begin? How do you search the Internet for a song, when you don't know what it's called? Do I walk up to a music major, clumsily hum the tune and hope that he or she recognises it? Sigh.

The tune in question actually used to freak me out a bit as a child. It used to play on TV during a British art programme that I used to watch as a child. I didn't really like the show, it was kind of boring and I found it a bit disturbing for some reason, but I watched it a lot anyway because there wasn't much to see on TV in those days.

Aquila Asia May-June 2011

Ugh... I'm still a bit jet lagged, so I'm not as productive as I'd like to be. Funny thing is, the Internet seems to be jet lagged too! It's so darn slow these days :P On a more positive note, I'm happy to share with you my latest articles, as published by Aquila Asia magazine. The first is on "Challenges in Raising Teenagers," and the second is on "Asian Muslim Women's Fashions of the Past." I had fun writing them, so I hope you'll enjoy reading them.

Kleenex Comfort Review results :)

Hey everyone! It's wonderful to be back in Malaysia after my brief visit to awe-inspiring London :) I have exciting news to share with you, you may remember the Kleenex review I did some time ago, and guess what? I got an email from Sophia of Indeed Communications today which said:

Dearest mommy bloggers!  What can I say - YOU'RE THE WINNERS!  Your blog review of the new range of Kleenex Tissues is simply wonderful!
I'm delighted to let you know that you've won yourself RM200 worth of Kleenex Tissue products! :-)

At this point, we're having a discussion on how best to hand the prizes to you as it's really a lot of tissues here...please give us some time to sort this out and we'll definitely keep you posted yeah!

Cheers!
Sophia

Isn't that wonderful? Thank you Kleenex and Indeed Communications!

* Update - 17 June 2011
I received word today that instead of getting RM200 worth of Kleenex tissues, I'm getting an RM200 Jusco shopping voucher. Hurray! I hope to use it to offset my grocery bill next month!

Visit to Tate Modern

There is a great deal to see and do in London, but the one thing that I really wanted to catch before I went home was the Tate Modern. The museum buff in me has been treated to the British Museum and V&A, but the spirit of the former Fine Art student longs to be satiated.  Thankfully I got the chance to nip off to Tate yesterday and here are some of the things that caught my eye in this amazing gallery.

I had planned to take the tube from Liverpool St Station, but while I topped up my Oyster, the man behind the ticket counter suggested that I take the more scenic route via the 11 bus. I alighted the bus at St Paul's Cathedral and walked across the Millenium bridge - which is pretty unnerving for someone who's got a slight  issue with heights!

As a former power station, the Tate Modern building is massive, but the entrance is pretty unassuming. A ray of sun must have reflected off my lens, because otherwise, I've got no idea what that white streak in the middle of my shot is!

Bottle bag clip

Hi earthlings! Greetings from London! Just wanted to let you all know that my bottle bag clip idea was published on 30 Days 30 Things a few days ago :) I have to admit that I did not come up with this brilliant idea myself, a friend had emailed it to me, but I thought I should take pictures of how it can be done and then re-share it with the world. Enjoy and be sure to upcycle those bottle caps!

A day at the V&A

I had quite the adventure all by my lonesome today. I hopped on the bus at Brick Lane to Liverpool Street Station, then took the undergound to Holborn, then switched to South Kensington and then walked on over to the V&A - yaay! Here's some of what I saw there...

A day at the British Museum

Alhamdulillah... today yet another dream of mine came true :) I took the 55 bus and headed to none other than - the British Museum! Here are some highlights :)

The facade everyone raves about.

They should really rave about the ceiling too, I mean... wow!
